Why we quit our jobs and joined Lisbon Challenge

Lisbon Challenge: There’s a before and after.

Last year was a year of big changes for metrifly, most of them due to the Lisbon Challenge.

Back in 2013 we identified a need and an opportunity in the Telecom Industry. Without quitting our day jobs, we worked our way towards an MVP. We were working really hard to make it appealing and functional. Easy-to-use yet useful. But validating our business model and iterating with potential customers was proving to be extremely hard. Looking back we can see the clear differences before and after the Lisbon Challenge.

“In 2014 we decided to quit our jobs and apply to Lisbon Challenge. Lisbon Challenge Spring’14 really started our growth.”

In 2014 we decided to quit our jobs and apply to Lisbon Challenge. Lisbon Challenge Spring’14 really started our growth. It allowed us to quickly reach key clients and partners, validating our business model. We went from a few leads to an entire network of clients, mentors, advisors, partners and an array of interesting people that can help you grow. We took advantage of every opportunity and our contact list exploded. One of the great things about the program is that you get in contact with key people in your market: you may be sitting around and suddenly you spot the CEO of this company you were dying to talk to.

Mike Butcher, editor at Tech Crunch, was in Lisbon for the Lisbon Challenge Spring Edition and the Lisbon Investment Summit

We are now well on our way towards international growth and we’ve secured key pilots and partnerships that wouldn’t have been possible without Lisbon Challenge. We’ll be in three countries by the end of the year, collecting millions of measurements about the network quality. You can get on the closed beta at http://metrifly.com.

What have we learned from the Lisbon Challenge? Every connection is a great opportunity, even if you don’t see it right away. So, make sure you get the most out of every session with mentors, partners, or simply networking events. Put yourself out there, and the dots will start to connect. But, remember, it’s all about people, and the Lisbon Challenge has some great people who can help you along the way to success and exponential growth.
